Zinox Technologies, in partnership with KongaCares, has launched a bold initiative aimed at equipping at least one million young Nigerians with personal computers in what is being touted as one of the largest private sector led digital interventions in the country’s history.

The ambitious programme, tagged Computerise Nigeria Initiative, was unveiled at the just concluded GITEX Nigeria 2025 in Lagos. It seeks to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide through a one child one computer model that delivers not only laptops but also supporting infrastructure and skill development.

Structured as a comprehensive solution, the initiative will offer beneficiaries access to laptops, sustainable power via iPower inverters, reliable satellite internet connectivity through Starlink, as well as ongoing training and after sales support. It is projected to make significant impact across education, employment and innovation sectors.

The launch event drew prominent stakeholders in the ICT sector including Chairman of Zinox Group Leo Stan Ekeh, Managing Director of Zinox Technologies Mrs Kelechi Eze Okonta, Chief Operating Officer of Konga Group Dave Omoregie, and Executive Director at Wema Bank and Chairman of the Committee of eBusiness Industry Heads CeBIH Ajibade Laolu Adewale.

In a statement issued yesterday, Zinox said the programme would be rolled out nationwide, leveraging its operational footprint across all 774 local government areas.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Eze Okonta underscored the importance of digital literacy in building a modern economy.

“If you do not digitise the education system you cannot digitise the economy,” she said.

Also speaking, President of the Nigeria Computer Society NCS Dr Muhammed Sirajo Aliyu described the initiative as a landmark intervention that could transform classrooms across the country. He praised Zinox for its consistent leadership and innovation in the tech space, noting that the company had played a critical role in providing affordable digital education tools.

Dr Aliyu also commended Ekeh for his unwavering support to the NCS and his broader contributions to Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.

In his remarks, Laolu Adewale of Wema Bank applauded Zinox for its continued faith in Nigeria’s digital future. He highlighted CeBIH’s work in the financial sector and urged both government and private sector stakeholders to ramp up investments in science and technology education, which he described as essential drivers of economic growth.

A major highlight of the event was Ekeh’s renewed financial commitment to the cause of digital education. The Zinox Group Chairman donated ten million naira to the NCS to support its activities and reaffirm his vision of a tech enabled educational system.

He called for a coordinated national effort to prepare Nigerian youths for a digital future, urging participation from government agencies, religious bodies, alumni associations, nongovernmental organisations and public spirited individuals.

“At the heart of the Computerise Nigeria Initiative is the vision of each child to a computer,” he said.

Ekeh noted that the programme is structured to eliminate financial obstacles through flexible interest free payment plans, making it accessible to families across all income levels.

He added that Zinox would issue quarterly donor reports to promote transparency and accountability, ensuring that sponsors whether government agencies, alumni groups, organisations or individuals can track the real time impact of their contributions on classrooms and communities.

With implementation set to commence soon, the initiative is seen as a major step towards achieving digital inclusion and education reform in Nigeria.
