Study MSc Environmental Governance at University of Freiburg, Germany

Applications are now open for the DAAD-EPOS Scholarships at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg for the 2026–2027 academic year. This prestigious, fully funded opportunity supports young professionals from developing countries who are passionate about environmental governance and sustainable development.

The MEG programme is a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary Master’s degree that focuses on the intersection of environmental science, policy, and governance. Taught entirely in English, it prepares students to tackle complex environmental challenges through sustainable, real-world solutions.

What the Scholarship Covers

The DAAD EPOS scholarship is fully funded and includes:

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must be:

  • From a DAC-listed developing country

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree completed within the last 6 years (by Oct 2025)

  • Have at least 2 years of professional work experience (excluding internships or volunteering)

  • Among the top third of their graduating class

  • Have not resided in Germany for more than 15 months prior to applying

  • Meet MEG and DAAD eligibility criteria

Note: If you already hold a Master’s degree, you must justify the need for a second one.

How to Apply

Application Deadline: October 15, 2025
All documents must be submitted as one compressed PDF via email to:
[email protected]

Referees must send their letters directly to the same email.

Required Documents:

  • Completed DAAD Application Form

  • MEG Programme Application Form

  • Motivation Letter (max 2 pages, dated)

  • Europass CV (no gaps, reverse chronological)

  • Transcript of Records + grading scale + certified translation (if needed)

  • Degree Certificates (Bachelor’s and Master’s if applicable)

  • Work Experience Certificate(s)

  • Two Recommendation Letters:

  • Valid English Language Certificate:

    • TOEFL iBT (min. 95)

    • IELTS (Band 7)

    • Cambridge C1

    • PTE (score 76)

  • Signed DAAD Checklist

  • APS Certificate (for applicants from China, India, Vietnam – can be submitted later)

Important: Submit the Online Eligibility Assessment (OEA) by October 8, 2025 to verify eligibility.

  • Application Deadline: October 15, 2025

  • Interviews for Shortlisted Applicants: January 2026

  • Final Results Announcement: Mid-February 2026
