This scholarship offers an outstanding opportunity for international students to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Japan, with two specialized programs to choose from:
Leadership Development Program for Self-Evolving Smart Societies (SESS):
This program aims to nurture future leaders who will address critical social issues and drive change in their home countries. The focus areas include carbon neutrality, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and economic security, equipping students to lead meaningful societal transformations.
Human Resource Development Program for Resolving Global Energy Challenges (GECHA):
GECHA prepares students to tackle global energy challenges through cutting-edge education in AI and quantum science. It fosters a global network of experts working to resolve energy-related issues, particularly in developing countries.
Degree Levels:
The UEC Tokyo Japanese Government MEXT Scholarships for Spring 2025 are available for students pursuing Master’s or Doctoral degrees at UEC Tokyo.
Eligible Subjects:
Students can apply for any subject offered at UEC Tokyo under this scholarship.
Benefits:
Recipients of the MEXT Scholarship will receive the following support:
Monthly Stipend:
- Master’s Students: 144,000 JPY/month (2 years)
- Doctoral Students: 145,000 JPY/month (3 years)
- Additional regional allowances may apply based on location.
- Full Tuition and Admission Fees:
- Tuition and admission fees are completely covered.
Travel Support:
An economy-class air ticket from your nearest international airport to Tokyo, Japan is included.
Eligible Nationalities:
This scholarship is open to international students from all nationalities. Applicants from designated “Focus Countries” will receive priority, though a limited number of spots are available for students from other countries as well.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Must be born on or after April 2, 1990 (exceptions may apply in extenuating circumstances).
- Nationality: Priority is given to students from “Focus Countries,” with consideration for applicants from other nationalities.
- Health: Good physical and mental health are necessary for participation in the program.
- Academic Excellence: A minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale (JASSO evaluation scale) is required.
- Language Proficiency:
- Japanese: N2 level on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent.
- English: B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or equivalent on recognized English proficiency tests.
