THE ARMOUR OF GOD PART 2
In continuation of our subject, The Armour Of God, we shall delve into part 2, “The Helmet Of Salvation.”
The Helmet of Salvation:
This piece of armour protects our minds from hopelessness. Without this helmet, a Christian is not recognized as a soldier of Christ, as they have not met the primary qualification of being saved. The believer who wears the helmet of salvation is courageous, armed with the assurance of eternal life and the hope of victory. This hope empowers him to fight and win the spiritual battles he faces. The helmet signifies not only salvation but also the confidence and bravery that come with being a true follower of Christ, ready to stand firm and conquer.
The Sword of the Spirit:
This weapon is designed for attacking. It represents the word of God. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
Believers must wield it against Satan’s cohorts and their activities whenever they detect their presence. This was the weapon Jesus used against the devil during their confrontation in Matthew Chapter 4 – “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
“Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Matthew 4:4, 7, 10
To use the Sword of the Spirit effectively, believers must learn how to handle it. This requires a deep understanding and knowledge of the Bible. Only a Christian who diligently reads and assimilates the scriptures can effectively use this spiritual weapon. It cannot be over stated that mastery of God’s word empowers believers with the exousia-authority and dunamis-power of God to counter and overcome the enemy’s schemes, helping them to stand firm in their faith and defend their spiritual ground.
THE NAME AND BLOOD OF JESUS
In spiritual warfare, the name of Jesus is supreme. When we invoke His name, every knee must bow, every evil activity must cease, and every demonic force must retreat. It’s like throwing a bomb into the enemy’s camp! “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” Philippians 2:9-10
“The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” Luke 10:17(ESV)
Same applies with the blood of Jesus. It is a very strong instrument for protection and purification. “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:14.
The blood of Jesus should be invoked whenever believers sense the devil’s activities around them.
These tools empower us, to stand as an army of the Lord against all the forces of darkness. All we need do is deploy them with confidence and authority. We will then see satanic powers submit to our commands and desist from their activities against our lives and property. No matter the type of challenges we face, whether personal struggles or stubborn spiritual battles, the name and blood of Jesus are highly effective weapons, that ensure our victory when properly used.
