Chinese tech brand itel is expanding its footprint in Nigeria’s booming renewable energy sector with a new lineup of portable and scalable solar solutions, aiming to capture demand from households and businesses frustrated by chronic grid failures and soaring diesel costs.

This is even as itel Energy, the energy division of the itel brand best known for affordable smartphones, launched its latest offerings in Lagos, including the portable itel Power Go, a compact unit with a 130W inverter and 320Wh battery capacity and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Energy Storage Solutions headlined by a 50kW hybrid inverter paired with 16kWh stackable high-voltage batteries.

The products are engineered specifically for Nigerian realities as frequent blackouts leave millions relying on expensive generators, limited living space in urban homes, and the need for budget-friendly alternatives amid rising energy prices.

Louis Liang, director for West Africa, itel Energy, while speaking with BusinessDay, said the new solutions were developed to meet the everyday electricity needs of both individuals and businesses.

According to him, the newly launched 50kW hybrid inverter with 16kWh stackable high-voltage batteries (C&I ESS) and itel Power Go, featuring a 130W inverter capacity and 320Wh battery capacity, offer practical and dependable alternatives to unreliable grid power.

“Whether you are an individual or a company, power instability and high electricity costs affect everyone. That is why we introduced the C&I solution for businesses and Power Go for individuals,” Liang said.

Lucky Ovenseri, national distribution manager, itel Energy, noted that the products were specifically designed with the Nigerian environment and lifestyle in mind. He emphasised affordability and portability as key considerations in the product design.

“We understand the Nigerian system, if a product is not affordable, it cannot reach the masses. Nigerians are dynamic and always on the move. You can carry the itel Power Go in your bag, just like a laptop,” Ovenseri said.

He added that the compact design and ease of installation make the products suitable for homes with limited space, stating that “Most Nigerian homes do not have excess space. We deliberately designed solutions that are compact, easy to set up, and do not take over an entire room.”

Ovenseri also assured customers of the brand’s integrity and product authenticity. “We do not use recycled cells, and we do not misrepresent our specifications. If we say a product is 10kW, then it is truly 10kW.”
