The True Orthodox Church has made significant strides in Nigeria since its arrival in 2021, driven by a fervent desire to spread the authentic teachings of Christianity as founded by Jesus Christ. This initiative was born out of a zeal for truth that had not been previously witnessed in the country.
Since its inception, the church has experienced steady growth, expanding its reach to states such as Ondo, Lagos, Plateau, and Benue, as well as neighbouring West African countries. Many have embraced the genuine light of the original church established by Christ’s apostles over 2,000 years ago, recognizing the distinction between it and the later institutions founded by men.
Civil name Marcusmore Olumide Darlington, known within the church as Hieromonk Seraphim, has played a pivotal role in this journey. Under his leadership, the church has trained candidates for priesthood, monks, and catechism across various locations. Additionally, they have launched a program on Orange FM Radio to further disseminate their message.
Born into the royal family of the Doyeni in Ondo Kingdom in the 1970s, Seraphim pursued a career in civil engineering before discovering his true calling in the Orthodox faith. After leaving the Roman Catholic Church, he studied Orthodox theology and earned a degree, followed by a second degree in counselling. He was ordained into the Ecumenical Orthodox Church in 2014 and sought to join the True Orthodox Church of America, ultimately being ordained in 2021 under the guidance of Archbishop Gregory.
His contributions have not gone unnoticed; he has received multiple accolades from the Institute of Information and Knowledge Management in Gboko, Benue State, including titles such as “Triple Anointed Man of God,” “Dedicated Teacher of Genuine Orthodox Church in Nigeria,” and “Award of Exemplary Leadership of the Host Community.”
In a significant development, the True Orthodox Bishop Synod elected him as the Bishop of Lagos in February 2024, marking another milestone in his commitment to spreading the true faith and leading the church in Nigeria.
