ABUJA, Nigeria — Eight individuals were slain recently in Nigeria as persecution of Christians in Nigeria continues unabated.

Nigeria has led the world in the number of Christians killed for their faith or kidnapped. Nigeria is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.

More details

Reports from the news outlet Christian Daily International-Morning Star News give these details about the recent persecutions:

— Muslim Fulani herdsmen are suspected in the March 10 slayings of at least six Christians in Farin Dutse village in Nigeria’s Nasarawa state. The day prior, a herdsman stabbed to death a Christian farmer.

— Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest serving at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira in Kaduna state, was kidnapped March 4 from the rectory. His body was found the next day, according to an area priest and the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan. Muslim Fulani herdsmen and some Islamic extremists are believed to have been the perpetrators.

— The Muslim governors of the states of Bauchi, Kano, Kebbi and Katsina ordered all public and private schools to close for the five weeks of Islam’s Ramadan fast. The closures were to begin in late February or early March and extend into April. In Kebbi, the order applies to Christians schools too.
