NOTAP GNT
L-R: The director-general, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, Dr. Obiageli Amadiobi receiving an award from managing director, Governance Today in Nigeria, Dr. Stanley Omoze while an official watches at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has been honoured with an award by Governance Today in Nigeria (GTN) for its remarkable contributions in technological research and knowledge transfer.

The award was presented to the director-general of NOTAP, Dr. Obiageli Amadiobi at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja. Presenting the plaque, GTN managing director, Dr. Stanley Omoze described NOTAP as a leading government institution playing a critical role in national development.

According to Omoze, GTN has consistently recognised governors, ministers and other public figures who demonstrate outstanding service. He explained that a rigorous process of research and consultation led to NOTAP’s selection, stressing that the agency stood out for its achievements in knowledge transfer and research. “When we celebrate achievements of public officials, it promotes healthy competition and the public becomes the direct beneficiary,” he said.

Omoze added that GTN’s vision is to rekindle the spirit of excellence in the public sector while serving as a watchdog that identifies ministries, departments, agencies and office holders delivering value to citizens. He noted that recognising such achievements motivates institutions to sustain performance and strive for greater impact.

Responding, Amadiobi expressed surprise and gratitude for the recognition, emphasising that she had no prior knowledge of the assessment process. She said this demonstrated the authenticity of the survey and lent weight to the award.

She acknowledged that despite numerous challenges, NOTAP has remained focused on its mandate to curtail capital flight by promoting the development and adoption of local technologies. “From the first day I received my appointment, I knew God was sending me on a mission that I must fulfil. We have faced challenges but I am blessed with a team of dedicated professionals. I push them hard but they have earned this recognition and I dedicate the award to them,” she said.

Amadiobi noted that under her leadership, NOTAP has worked tirelessly to reposition itself as a central player in advancing Nigeria’s technological base. She explained that the agency has been proactive in ensuring that technologies already available in Nigeria are harnessed to reduce dependence on foreign solutions.

She said NOTAP’s work directly supports government’s broader vision of driving innovation, strengthening local expertise and building a resilient economy. She urged other agencies to show the same commitment to efficiency and national growth. “We are working very hard to turn NOTAP around and I pray other agencies will do so too. Our goal is to fight capital flight by ensuring we patronise Nigerian technologies. This award reassures us that we are on the right path,” she said.

The NOTAP boss reaffirmed the agency’s determination to continue playing a leading role in fostering innovation and ensuring Nigeria’s economy becomes stronger and more competitive. She pledged that NOTAP will remain steadfast in its mission of promoting local content, encouraging research and development, and positioning Nigeria as a hub of technological excellence.
