Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be currently seeking asylum in the UK or be a dependant, spouse, or civil partner of someone seeking asylum.
- Provide proof of immigration status.
- Have a conditional or unconditional offer for a full-time one-year Master’s program at Northumbria University (starting September 2025).
- Meet all course entry requirements, including English language proficiency.
- Be residing in the North East of England (Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Northumberland, Cleveland, or North Cumbria).
- Be ineligible for UK student finance (tuition fee or maintenance loans) due to immigration status.
- If applying as a dependant, must have had the relationship established before the original asylum application.
Application Process
Step 1: Submit Your Application
- Complete the Sanctuary Scholarship application form.
- Submit before 16:00 on Friday, 25 April 2025.
- Only applicants currently residing in the UK will be considered.
Step 2: Prepare Your Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- Proof of immigration status.
- Official offer letter from Northumbria University.
- Any relevant supporting documents.
- Selected applicants will be invited for an interview.
Step 3: Selection & Notification
- Applications are assessed based on the form, supporting documents, and interview performance.
- Successful candidates will be notified via email.
- Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.
Important Information
- This scholarship is only available for students unable to access UK student finance due to their immigration status.
- The cash award is contingent on full course registration.
- If the student’s immigration status changes, they must inform Northumbria University immediately.
- Sanctuary Scholars cannot hold other Northumbria University scholarships simultaneously.
- If a student defers or withdraws, the scholarship will be revoked.
- The scholarship is valid for one academic year only.
