The CEO/Co-founder of GreyDots, Arnold Agure-Dam, has said that the introduction of GreyDots AI, the first AI solution developed entirely in and for Nigeria, marks a significant milestone in the nation’s technological evolution.
He described it as a ground-breaking development in Nigerian technology, stressing that this innovative AI, named Nigeria Info’ Generative Pre-trained Transformer (NiGPT), is not just a product, “it’s a promise of transformation,” designed to address local needs with global technology standards.
Agure-Dam stated this at the launching of NiGPT at the Grand Ball Room, Eko Hotel & Towers, Victoria Island, Lagos, recently. He noted that no one is best position to accurately portray Africa’s narratives better than Africans themselves, adding that “NiGPT provides us the opportunity to highlight the true strength of our nation, from showcasing the history of rich, enlightened and sophisticated ancient kingdoms to correcting a lot of false narratives about our heritage.
“NiGPT empowers us to shape the global narratives by accurately highlighting our true strength by helping to address our weaknesses,” he said in an interview with New Telegraph.
He added that NiGPT not only serves as “a cultural preservation tool but also enhances all the sessions of our social economy existences including education, healthcare, agriculture, finance, manufacturing, transportation, entertainment, energy and more.
“We have revolutionized information Access about Nigeria through our AI system. We are confident that NIGPT will not only meet your expectations but will exceed your expectations.”
Agure-Dam, in his impressive presentation which held the audience in awe and admiration, noted that though, the emergence of ChatGPT spelt the end of the Google era, the birth of NiGPT could relegate the ChatGPT to the back seat in terms of real-time local solutions to information needs of Nigerians seeking reliable and detailed information on any topical issue from across the sectors, including “our cherished values as it captures the essence of our cultural bent much better.”
He added that NiGPT possesses the capacity to provide the required information on the economy, politics, and other fields in Nigeria promptly too.
“NiGPT also can highlight our true strengths even as it helps to address our weaknesses,” he said.
Earlier in his keynote address, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Uche Nnaji, commended the bold GrayDots for the innovative AI project.
Nnaji who was represented by the Director-General, Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency, Prof. Martins Emeje, assured of the Ministry’s support for any effort directed at enhancing the use of technology in the country.
Also, in his remark, the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, emphasized that AI would help humans to become more effective and achieve greater results in less time.
The Minister said he was excited that Nigerian innovators are thinking of locally-compliant solutions that could drive productivity in sectors with potential for job creation.
“With the solutions that the NiGPT will deliver, I am sure we will finally have real local solutions to address specific problems across sectors. I am confident that the project we are launching here today will improve our economic productivity and help our youth to do well in sectors that they usually run away from, particularly agriculture,” he said.
Dignitaries in attendance at the event included the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, who was represented by Mr Sunday Baba; the Minister of Innovation and Technology represented by Prof Martins Emeje;
The governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was represented by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Tubosun Alake.
