In a bold push to modernise Nigeria’s justice sector through technology, the Special Assistant to the President on Justice Sector Reform and ICT/Digital and Innovative Technology has launched JusticeTechNG 2025, the country’s first national hackathon and accelerator program focused exclusively on justice innovation.
The program will begin with a three-day hackathon from June 3–5, 2025, followed by a four-week accelerator program from June 10 to July 10. It will conclude with a Demo Day that will feature pitches from finalist teams before a distinguished panel of government officials, judges, investors, and development partners.
JusticeTechNG 2025 is convened by Fernandez Marcus-Obiene, Special Assistant to the President on Justice Sector Reform and ICT/Digital and Innovative Technology. Speaking on the initiative, Marcus-Obiene stated:
“JusticeTechNG is about empowering young Nigerians to create real-world solutions to the challenges we face daily in our courts, police stations, correctional centres, and legal aid systems. If we want transformation, we must invest in ideas, people, and platforms that are bold and local.”
The program is being organised by a multi-disciplinary committee chaired by Abiola Jimoh, a technology policy professional with experience across government and development sectors. Jimoh emphasised the strategic importance of the initiative:
“This is not just a hackathon. It’s a coordinated national push to build a pipeline of scalable solutions that can be tested, adopted, and scaled by justice institutions. We are building for impact.”
JusticeTechNG will feature teams of developers, lawyers, civic actors, and designers building digital solutions around key focus areas including access to justice, court administration, digital legal awareness, crime reporting, prison reintegration, and justice sector transparency.
Teams will compete for up to ₦22 million in prizes and support, including seed funding, technical assistance, and pilot opportunities with government and civil society stakeholders.
Applications are now open to teams of 3–5 individuals, and must be submitted no later than May 25, 2025. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of evaluators composed of industry experts, legal practitioners, technologists, and civic innovation leaders, who will assess each proposed solution’s quality, feasibility, and relevance.
JusticeTechNG 2025 is guided by a high-level Advisory Board composed of judiciary, legal practice, government, academia, and civic technology leaders. Members include a state chief judge, senior advocates, digital policy experts, and heads of legal, fintech and other technology firms. They provide strategic direction, credibility, and alignment with long-term justice reform goals.
The program is currently open to strategic partnerships with public and private institutions, donor agencies, and innovation supporters who share a vision of accessible, effective, and tech-enabled justice in Nigeria.
