Moniepoint and Flutterwave, Nigeria’s fintech unicorns, have been named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies for 2025.

Moniepoint has risen from humble banking infrastructure roots to a full-service powerhouse. For Flutterwave, TIME’s recognition lauds its global ambitions for the second year running.

This is a showcase of African innovation, as their recognition by TIME underscores African fintech’s global significance.

“This recognition by TIME is a powerful validation of the work we do every day to create financial happiness for millions of people and businesses in Africa,” Tosin Eniolorunda, chief executive officer of Moniepoint, said.

Moniepoint and Flutterwave share a common goal, which is to empower Africa through technology.

Moniepoint

Moniepoint is recognised by TIME, which highlights its growth mission, especially with targeting small and medium-sized enterprises in Nigeria’s informal economy.

In late 2024, the firm hit unicorn status after a $110 million Series C round. It also secured awards in Corporate Banking and Digital Wallets at the IBS Intelligence Digital Banking Awards.

Funded in 2015 by Tosin Eniolorunda and Felix Ike, the Lagos-based fintech now supports 10 million customers, processes over $1 billion transactions monthly, with a total monthly payments volume of over US$22 billion. It recently launched MonieWorld, a remittances product serving clients outside of Africa; and

Flutterwave

TIME’s recognition of Flutterwave, valued at $3 billion, reflects the firm’s global ambition to connect Africa to the world.

Flutterwave’s Send App now operates across 49 U.S. states, completing 98 percent of transactions within five minutes, TIME stated. Meanwhile, partnerships in places like Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and payment transactions of $31 billion in 2024, underscore its reach.

Since its founding in 2016 by Olugbenga Agboola, the company has become Africa’s most valuable fintech. Flutterwave is currently targeting profitability by the end of 2025. “We’re here for the long game,” Agboola said.
