Nigerian Christians, who face escalating persecution in their country, devoted a special time in July for prayer.
Christian Daily International-Morning Star News reports that Christians in Bassa County in Nigeria’s Plateau state gathered at worship centers July 9 and “prayed for relief and strength.”

Joshua Bari, a pastor and the area chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, and Adamson Gado, a pastor who is president of the Irigwe Ministers Forum, released a statement calling for this time of prayer for persecuted Christians in Nigeria.
‘Horrific attacks’
“As horrific attacks and killings continue across the nation, we must rise and stand in the gap — for Irigwe, Plateau state and Nigeria as a whole,” Bari and Gado’s statement reads, as reported by Christian Daily-Morning Star. “We are calling on every family, church, workplace and place of business to take this day seriously.”
Nigeria has led the world in the number of Christians killed for their faith or kidnapped, according to the advocacy group Open Doors.
Plateau state is one of the areas of Nigeria where Muslim Fulani herdsmen, bandits and terrorists raid Christian communities and villages.
Two such attacks occurred June 23 and June 26. Four Christians were slain, states Christian Daily-Morning Star.
