He went on to challenge his compatriots to practice their faith in God, whose presence is made manifest through virtuous living.
“We Nigerians, drawing from our religious riches must all endeavour to bring an end to corruption through our lifestyle, and impart the presence of God in whatever we do and everywhere we go,” Archbishop Kaigama said.
The Local Ordinary of Abuja Archdiocese called upon the people of God in his Metropolitan See to prepare for Christmas through repentance, conversions, and “active commitment to faith.”
He highlighted the importance of spiritual preparation during the Season of Advent, emphasizing that while the physical preparations of the places of public worship, such as decorations and carols are important, true preparation lies in repentance.
“The Christmas decorations, carols, and material preparations are all necessary, but what matters is to be aware that our minds are filled with evils and malicious thoughts. There is a need to repent, removing whatever constitutes an obstacle to encountering Jesus Christ,” he said.
In the December 8 homily, the Catholic Archbishop lauded the church of the Archangels, Gaduwa as “one of the most magnificent churches of our Archdiocese, befitting of a place of worship to God in spirit and truth.”
The Catholic Church leader, who started his Episcopal Ministry in April 1995 as Bishop of Nigeria’s Catholic Diocese of Jalingo commended both the previous and current Clergy for their dedication and significant contributions to the growth and success of the Church in his Metropolitan See.
“I must commend the Salesian of Don Bosco, especially those working currently here, led by Fr. Ambrose Anene, the parish priests, and all the priests who have worked in the past and lay people who have worked and are still working to ensure that the work of God continues to grow and succeed. Your contributions and sacrifices have not been in vain,” he said, and implored, “May God bless you all.”
Archbishop Kaigama also urged the people to embrace generosity, saying, “The Holy Word of God was solemnly read and explained and the people were urged to make a gift to those who have nothing, alleviating the hunger of three people this Christmas.”
He further emphasized the church’s role in promoting love and justice in society through God’s Word.
