Nigeria Unveils Plan to Send First Civilian to Space – Voice of Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to send its first citizen into space.

The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Mathew Adepoju disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Dr. Adepoju disclosed that Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) to support this ambitious mission.

He noted that this collaboration marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s 25-year history of space exploration, placing the country among those actively participating in human spaceflight.

“This initiative opens up new avenues for scientific research and technological advancement,” Dr. Adepoju stated.

He also highlighted the potential of this endeavour to drive technological progress and inspire interest in STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) among Nigerian youth.
