Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo urges Nigerian churches to prioritize hard work and community service over prosperity preaching. Speaking at GOFAMINT’s 68th Anniversary, Osinbajo stressed that churches should focus on values that drive societal development to help Nigeria realize its full potential.

In a recent lecture delivered at The Gospel Faith Mission International’s (GOFAMINT) 68th Anniversary and 58th Annual Convention, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo called for a significant shift in the focus of Nigerian churches. Osinbajo criticized the current trend within the church community that prioritizes personal prosperity over the core values of hard work and community service.

Osinbajo expressed concern that Nigerian churches have increasingly concentrated on material wealth and personal success, often at the expense of promoting the broader, traditional messages of peace, unity, and societal development. He argued that this shift has contributed to the nation’s stagnation and undermined its growth potential.

“To see Nigeria achieve its true potential and experience a genuine resurgence, our churches must realign their teachings,” Osinbajo stated. He emphasized the need for churches to advocate for hard work, compassion, and community service as opposed to merely preaching the prosperity gospel. According to Osinbajo, this change is crucial for transforming individuals into proactive agents of positive change.

Osinbajo’s remarks reflect a growing discourse on the role of religious institutions in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges. By calling for a return to foundational values, he hopes to inspire a shift that could significantly impact the nation’s trajectory.
