Nigeria Hosts 3rd ECOWAS Regional Cybersecurity Hackathon – Voice of Nigeria

Nigeria is currently hosting the 3rd ECOWAS Regional Cybersecurity Hackathon, a 30-hour event running from 15th to 16th October 2024.

The event, which brings together young tech enthusiasts from across the region, is led by the Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with ECOWAS.

Teams of top cybersecurity experts, innovators, and digital pioneers from the ECOWAS region are participating, contributing their expertise to develop groundbreaking digital solutions. With 30 hours of non-stop innovation, curiosity is at an all-time high.

This intense competition is designed to strengthen the cybersecurity workforce in West Africa by fostering innovation and collaboration among the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

Competitors are expected to tackle real-world cyber threats and contribute to a safer digital future for the region.

Speaking at the opening of the Hackathon, NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa, represented by Director of IT Infrastructure Solutions Olawumi Oladejo, urged participants to excel throughout the competition. He emphasized that “This is more than just a challenge—it is an opportunity to showcase skills, creativity, and passion for cybersecurity.”

He encouraged participants to push their limits, innovate, and create solutions that could shape the future of digital security in the region.

A total of nine countries and their teams are participating, including:

  • Nigeria represented by Team ERROR
  • Liberia represented by Team Cyber Warriors
  • Ghana represented by Ninja Team
  • Côte d’Ivoire represented by Team Shellx Root
  • Mauritania represented by Team H4CK3R5
  • Sierra Leone represented by Team SUDO
  • Togo represented by REDteam
  • Guinea represented by Offensive Security
  • Senegal represented by Team Jam Bars
