Nigeria and Denmark have formalised a new era of technology collaboration by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focussing on digitalisation, innovation, and artificial intelligence (AI) development.

The agreement is anticipated to boost growth and create opportunities for tech talent in both countries.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy, and Lina Gandløse Hansen, Denmark’s state secretary for trade and investment, signed the agreement in Lagos at the Nordic Nigeria Connect Forum’s fourth edition.

Themed “Forging Partnerships for Sustainable Impact,” the forum brought together Nordic and Nigerian innovators to chart a shared path for inclusive technological advancement.

The MoU follows Dr. Tijani’s August visit to Copenhagen, where he launched the Nordic-Africa Summit during Denmark’s annual innovation festival. According to officials, the visit inspired mutual interest, which has now led to actionable collaboration.

The partnership will centre on three crucial areas: digital connectivity, public sector innovation, and talent development.

Hansen referred to the agreement as “the first tangible step forward” in promoting innovation-led growth between the two countries.

“This signing is the result of the Honourable Minister’s visit to Copenhagen, which inspired genuine dialogue and swift action. When Nigeria calls for collaboration, Denmark responds,” she said, adding that Denmark will ensure the partnership produces concrete results.

Dr. Tijani lauded Denmark’s commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, saying: “This is not just a symbolic signing; it reflects a genuine interest in Nigeria’s growth and potential.”

He added that both countries would jointly explore broadband expansion, digital governance solutions pioneered in Denmark, and remote work opportunities for Nigerian professionals within Danish firms.
