The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC ) has officially commissioned its newly renovated Digital Industrial Park (DIP) in Kano, reaffirming its commitment to fostering innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment in Nigeria’s technology sector.
The commissioning ceremony, held yesterday, was led by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani. He was joined by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo—representing the Executive Governor—and the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande.
The Kano DIP, restored with support from IHS Towers Nigeria following a previous incident of vandalism, is envisioned as a hub for digital innovation. It aims to equip young Nigerians with skills and access to resources that will enable them to transform ideas into commercially viable solutions.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Tijani described the park as “a new opportunity and a gateway for the young people of Kano to access skills, resources and opportunities to shape their future and contribute to our innovation economy.”
In recognition of his continued advocacy for digital transformation, the Minister was conferred with the traditional title Sarkin Yakin Dijital Na Kano—Champion of Kano’s Digital Advancement. Expressing gratitude for the honour, he stated:
“I am deeply humbled to be conferred with the title of Sarkin Yakin Dijital Na Kano — Champion of Kano’s Digital Advancement today. This recognition was not just personal but reflective of the collective work we are doing to empower young people through technology and innovation.”

Dr. Tijani also acknowledged the collaborative efforts that made the park’s revival possible:

We all have a role to play in safeguarding spaces like this, because by protecting them, we protect the dreams and ambitions of millions of young Nigerians.”

The NCC’s initiative is part of a broader national strategy to ensure that Nigeria’s digital economy leaves no one behind, creating inclusive access to digital opportunities across all regions.
