Nigeria has emerged as one of Bolt’s strongest global markets for safety technology adoption, with the ride-hailing company confirming that 1,596 drivers in the country have already enrolled for its in-app dash cam feature.
The development positions Nigeria as the second-fastest market worldwide to embrace the innovation, just months after the tool was launched in August 2025.
Bolt said the rapid uptake reflects the growing emphasis on safety and accountability within Nigeria’s ride-hailing ecosystem. The dash cam, designed to enhance transparency for both drivers and riders, allows drivers to use their smartphones as smart recording devices during trips. All footage is securely stored in the cloud, where it can be accessed to resolve disputes, deter unsafe conduct, or support investigations when incidents occur.
According to the company, the initiative is part of a broader suite of safety features that have strengthened trust among users. Findings from Bolt’s recent Safety Perception Survey showed that most riders and drivers in Nigeria view app-based mobility services as among the safest ways to move around major cities. The survey also revealed that tools such as live GPS tracking, driver verification, and now dash cam recording play a crucial role in improving users’ sense of security.
Weyinmi Aghadiuno, head of regulatory & policy Africa, Bolt, said, “Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Bolt. Initiatives like the dash cam, coupled with our ongoing education and awareness efforts, are central to our mission of ensuring every trip is safe, transparent, and respectful. We’re encouraged to see Nigerian drivers leading the way in embracing this innovation, the strong uptake demonstrates our drivers’ commitment to providing safer rides and reinforces Nigeria’s leadership in adopting technology that protects both riders and drivers.”
Bolt plans to expand the dash cam program to more Nigerian cities and continue working with driver-partners, regulators, and safety organizations to raise the standard of urban mobility nationwide.
