Consul General of India in Lagos, Chandramouli K. Kern, has promised continued transfer of technology from India to Nigeria, saying the transfer dates back to 1964 and has strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries.

Kern made the pledge, yesterday, at the Free Health Camp organised by Indian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Importers in Nigeria (IPMIN) and specialist doctors and paramedics for residents of the Ilupeju community at Sura Mogaji Park, Ilupeju.

According to Kern, the free health camp was organised in line with the belief of Indians that the whole world is one family.

He said the Indian government would establish healthcare centres in Nigeria to reduce the cost of transportation to India to receive medical attention.

He said the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Initiative, a capacity-building initiative by the government of India to the developing world, including Nigeria, would continue to make an impact in Nigeria.

Nigerians, according to him, take 500 slots every year, which include visas, tickets, staying in India, training in India and books in India which are all free.

“Not a single penny is required to be paid.  The government of India supports it 100 per cent and Nigerians that have not been benefitting from this programme are free to apply,” he said.

Vice President of IPMIN, Hemanth Sharma, said the camp was organised to give back to the residents of the Ilupeju community for their warm relationship with members of the Indian community in their midst.

General Secretary of IPMIN, T. Venket Subramanian, said the programme which was organised for about 300 beneficiaries attracted about 500 participants.

Executive Committee Coordinator, IPMIN, Suresh Nair said the programme, which covered general health check-ups, specialist consultations, free basic medications (subject to availability) and health awareness sessions was very successful.
