Ijesas storm Ijesatedo to celebrate Ijesaman as Baba Ijo Methodist Church

The Ijesas from the Risawe of the Kayode-Adedeji family from Ilesa, South-West of Nigeria on Saturday July 26, 2025 stormed the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos, Mainland, Ijesatedo Circuit, Ijesatedo local church in Lagos State to celebrate the head of the family, Engr Diran Kayode-Adedeji.

Penpushing reports that the ceremony of the day was the installation of the 88-year-old patriarch of the famous family of A 5 Ishida Street, Ilesa, as the Baba Ijo of the church, held inside the church.

The service in the church which was full to brim was kicked-off with service at the entrance followed with hymn, prayer, processional hymn, oath of office, consecration of items for sacred use, induction, Bible passages.

Penpushing further reports that other order of service conducted by Most Rev (Dr) Obafemi Adeleye include sermon, holy communion, anthem, thanksgiving, notices prayer and benediction and recessional hymn

The octogenarian Baba Ijo in his oath of office declared that he did not belong to any secret or cult group, will never join any secret cult or occult group in any form throughout the days of his life and that he is joined to the church of God to stand against all works of darkness in this world.

‘I know and believe that if I do not take this oath with sincerity and truthful heart, I place myself under the wrath of Almighty God. And if I ever associate myself with any secret group after this oath, I shall willingly relinquish my position as a duly appointed church title holder of Methodist Church Nigeria, Ijesatedo, Lagos’, he emphasized

‘The oath I take today on earth is confirmed in heaven, and I seal it with Jesus, that if I remain faithful. I shall never perish in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen”, Kayode-Adedeji stated

Penpushing also reports that the cleric in his remarks told the congregation that the all-necessary investigations have been conducted and the church authorities believed that with God’s help, the life of the new Baba Ijo will reflect the glory of Christ

The clergyman added that if anyone desires the office of an elder in the church, he desires a good work, stressing that a church elder must be blameless, not quarrelsome, vigilant, of good behaviour.

Penpushing reports that Adeleye emphasized that church elder must be hospitable, not given to wine, not greedy for money, not violent or double-tongue and must be someone who can manage his own household well.

The Baba Ijo was born in November 14, 1937 among other brothers and sister to Pa Emmanuel Kayode-Adedeji of Risawe family at A 5Ishida Street, Ilesa, Nigeria, and his academic career include Methodist School, Oke-Ese, Ilesa, Methodist School Otapete, Ilesa.

Penpushing further reports that it include Methodist Schoo, Osogbo, Wesley School, Mossosi, Ago-Iwoye, Wesley School, Ijebu-Ode between 1946-1954, and Ilesa Grammar School between 1955-1959.

The Church elder equally attended West End Architectural Draughtmanship School, South Kensinton, London (1964-1965), Brixton School of Building and Structural Engineering (University of South Bank), London 1966-1970

Penpushing also reports that he is a member to number of professional bodies which include Chartered Institute of Building, Great Britain, Construction Surveyors Institute, Great Britain, Nigeria Institute of Building and Niger Insurance of Management.

Penpushing also reports that the train of the ceremony was after the conferment moved to the private residence of Baba Ijo located at number 22, Tapa Street, Odi-Olowo axis of Ijesatedo where guests and well-wishers were entertained with sumptuous and drinks, as well as light music
