Inheritors Christian Missions Int’l on Saturday, October 26 gave out scholarships to indigent children in Ogun State as part of activities marking its 20 years of ministry.

The scholarship was instituted in honour of the founder of the ministry, Dr Dele Akindayo who passed on to glory three years ago.

During his lifetime Pastor Akindayo was passionate about children and had helped many of them through school.

Dr. Nike Akindayo who has since stepped in to fill the vacuum left by her husband said the scholarship was the church’s own way of impacting society and also honouring the memory of her late husband.

The Church’s anniversary was celebrated alongside its annual “Champions for Change” convention with the theme- Your Light has Come.

It ran for three days and was held at two centers of the church in Ogun State. One at The Bells Area of Ota and also at the Ajegunle centre around Atan, also in Ogun State. It featured men of God exhorting participants on the theme.

Dr Nike AKINDAYO ministered on the theme on Friday while also delving into the history of the church and the vision of raising men who walk in integrity in the light of Christ.

She recounted the tenacity of her late husband, Pastor Dr Dele Akindayo, the founding Pastor of the church, in holding firm to the vision before his passing.

The scholarship

20 children benefitted from the scholarship. They were given varying amounts through the Dele Akindayo Indigent Scholars Award inaugurated on Saturday, October 27. The scholarships were awarded at an impressive ceremony at the church’s international headquarters in Ajegunle-Atan, Ogun State.

The guest preacher at the event, Pastor Taiwo Awosika spoke on the theme, Your Light has come. He recalled how the late Akindayo comported himself and served the Lord sacrificially.

He said, ‘Pastor Akindayo had done what the Lord wanted him to do. He ran a good race and he had gone to rest. I am glad the work of the ministry did not stop. Dr. Nike Akindayo has continued to shine by impacting people. The scholarship award for indigent children in honour of Pastor Dele Akindayo is really commendable.’

Pastor Awosika, who was quite close to the late Akindayo, said the scholarship was not intended to draw crowds to the church but to simply impact society in line with Jesus’ command that we should shine our light.

According to him, every Christian has a responsibility to shine their light to the glory of the Lord. ‘To shine your light simply means to be different and stand out. Believers are meant to stand out wherever they are and shine the light of the gospel.’

Pastor Awosika lamented that many Christians have been compromised. He cited instances of Christians who stood their ground in the face of odds while urging his listeners to hold to the faith.

Closing

Apostle Yomi Olapade was available to round up the three-day event during a thanksgiving session at the Ota centre of the church on Sunday, October 27

He made a prophetic declaration assuring that the church would henceforth march forward and complete the task ahead.
