History of church haunted by soul of dead boy

According to local residents, every night in the Orthodox temple you can encounter the soul of a dead boy who is still looking for his parents.

Chróścin is a small town located approximately 40 km from Wieluń, in the Łódź Voivodeship. Among the forests surrounding it, near the Prosna River, there is a palace built in the second half of the 19th century (currently a Social Welfare Home) and an Orthodox church.

In the area, you can also see a mill and abandoned buildings, but it is the Orthodox church that arouses strong emotions among people who visited it. Although it could be a place to stroll for pleasure, lovers of paranormal phenomena most often visit it because of the story of a boy who lost his life in tragic circumstances.

Church of St. Jerzy Zwycięzcy in Chróścina was established in the second half of the 19th century. Its founders were Tatiana and Iwan Łopuchin, who settled there. Earlier, this estate was given to General Nikolai Krasnokutski by the Tsar as a reward for his involvement in suppressing the January Uprising.

The general gave everything to his daughter Tatiana as a dowry. The new owners of Chróścino undertook the construction of a palace, an Orthodox church, a bell tower and a cemetery.

During the difficult times of World War I, German soldiers robbed the church and dismantled the bell tower. Only over the following years was the building renovated, but it gradually fell into oblivion again.

Rumour has it that this was due to mysterious events related to the church and the boy buried there over 120 years ago. Local residents claim that a ghost wanders around the temple at night and looks into its windows. What’s more, he doesn’t resemble a ghost at all, and is closer to a flesh-and-blood boy. What makes him stand out is his unusual outfit from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the fact that he appears there at night.

The boy seems to ignore people, but when asked what he is doing there at this time, he is supposed to answer that he is looking for his parents. After that, according to the accounts of people who saw him, he disappears.

Everything indicates that the boy encountered near the church is Nikita, one of the children of its founders, Tatiana and Ivan Łopukhin. He was buried there in 1903 after drowning in a nearby pond while duck hunting.

Probably few people would remember this fact if it were not for the fact that when the exhumation of the remains buried in the cemetery next to the church began in the 1990s, the boy’s spirit, according to eyewitness accounts, began to appear.

In 2013, the Orthodox temple was restored again, but the legend surrounding this place is still alive. After the declarations of people who claimed to have had contact with the boy’s spirit, the more courageous still wander to the church at night, trying to meet him there.

It seems that the bleak story continues to attract people who appreciate mysteries and thriller stories.
