The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, urged Nigerian youths to leverage technology to enhance their learning process.

Ibijoke gave the advice at the grand finale of the Ikorodu Division’s Second Edition of Inter-School Debate Competition for public secondary schools in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 16 public secondary schools participated in the three-week-long competition.

The competition was organised by the Ikorodu Local Government in collaboration with Kaodwad and Associates, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru (Lagos- East), Babajimi Benson, and a member of the Lagos House of Assembly, Gbolahan Ogunleye.

She pointed out that leveraging technology to improve the teaching and learning process was an important tool in the education process.

“It is essential and critical to protect the future of our children and young people.

“It is a competitive world, so we have to give them the basic tools, to make them compete with children all over the world,” the governor’s wife said.

She urged stakeholders to begin to passionately advocate the kind of education that would prepare the students to be academically excellent.

According to her, the youths must be guided to discover themselves and acquire the right skills to be competitive in various sectors and be champions globally, making their parents and Nigeria proud.

“This will further fulfill our ambition of raising young individuals and quality leaders.

“Quality leaders that will guarantee a greater future for Lagos State and Nigeria,” she said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Wasiu Adesina, said the debate was an initiative designed to sharpen the reasoning, eloquence, and critical thinking of students.

Adesina said, “We are equipping them with skills needed to engage with the world confidently and effectively.

“Today’s grand finale marks the culmination of months of rigorous engagement, where our pupils demonstrated their brilliance and potential.

“I am incredibly proud of each participant and I salute their courage and dedication to learning.

“I believe that the knowledge and confidence gained from this exercise will serve them well as they navigate their academic journey and future careers,” he said.

The chairman said the winner of the competition was going home with a cash gift of N500,000 and a laptop, the first runner-up, N300,000 and a laptop, while the second runner-up would get N200,000 and a laptop.
