Nigeria’s tech community is set for a boost as Google, in partnership with African digital skills trainer GOMYCODE, launches the “Build with AI” programme to equip 1,000 local developers with generative artificial intelligence skills.
The 11-week training will combine Google’s advanced AI tools, including Gemini, with practical, mentorship-driven learning to prepare participants for real-world problem-solving.
Head of Developer Ecosystem for Google in Sub-Saharan Africa, John Kimani, said the initiative comes at a crucial time when industries in Nigeria are increasingly adopting technology for scalable solutions.
He noted that the programme aims to position Nigerian developers at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation with solutions that are both globally competitive and locally relevant.
The training will take place across GOMYCODE’s network of hacker spaces, using a blended learning model that mixes in-person classes, hands-on lab work, and guided mentorship.
Organisers say the initiative will strengthen Nigeria’s position on the global AI map while fostering innovation in key sectors such as financial technology, healthcare, and agriculture.
