Christian music artist Forrest Frank shared an update on a painful back injury sustained while skateboarding and announced that in the midst of his suffering, he’s preparing to release a God-glorifying new song born from the trial.
The 30-year-old “Your Way’s Better” singer revealed last week that he fractured his L3 and L4 vertebrae during a casual skateboarding session with his 2-year-old son, Bodie. A security camera video shared on social media captured the moment of the fall, showing the artist landing hard on his lower back after slipping off his skateboard.
Since then, Frank has kept his 1.7 million TikTok followers updated on his condition and the excruciating pain that accompanies even the simplest movements.

In a video recorded from bed and shared on social media on Wednesday, Frank and his wife, Grace, are seen weeping and praying as they attempt to help him sit up.
“I’m stressing,” Frank said tearfully as Grace wrapped a towel beneath his arms to assist him. “I feel like I should just [lie back down].” Both Frank and Grace began crying in the clip before he cried out, “Help me. Help me, Jesus! Help me, Jesus!”
Moments later, Grace told viewers: “We just witnessed a miracle. Truly.” Frank added, “Every time we’ve fully focused our mind on Jesus … it hasn’t hurt.” Grace agreed, “Every time we’ve done it, it’s worked.”
In the caption to the TikTok, Frank wrote: “Day 5 with a broken back. Turned on the camera to record a music clip & accidentally caught this moment. … Every day I have to get out of bed to use the restroom & it’s excruciating pain … but Jesus has been getting us through it.”
“Thanks for all your prayers,” he wrote this week. “We’re gonna get through this!!! Today is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!!!!”
Frank’s been documenting how he’s channeled the experience into his latest song, written and recorded while lying in bed. The track, titled “God’s Got My Back,” will be released on Friday.
The song’s lyrics have already gone viral: “God’s got my back/ Even when I fall or get attacked/ God’s got my back/ Even when I’m low and full of lack/ God’s got my back/ Even when my soul is full of sorrow/ I don’t have to worry about tomorrow … ”
Frank first teased the song in a TikTok video where he explained his songwriting process: “I think I’m gonna just sing whatever pops out, and I’m gonna build the chords around it.” Within three hours, the song was born and quickly resonated with his audience, garnering millions of views and response videos.
Fellow Christian artists praised the release. “That joint sounds dope,” Lecrae commented, while Colton Dixon wrote, “Welp. Epitome of no excuses. Insane bro.”
In a follow-up post, Frank reflected on the experience, comparing it to Peter walking on water: “We’re fixing our eyes on him and able to walk on water. But as soon as we’re not, it is treacherous.”
Frank, who gained fame as one-half of the surf-pop duo Surfaces, has since transitioned into a successful CCM solo career.
At the 2024 GMA Dove Awards, he was named New Artist of the Year, and his single “Good Day” won Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. His solo album Child of God debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart, and his collaborations include work with Elevation Worship, Maverick City Music, Lecrae and Hulvey.
Two of his songs, “Nothing Else” and “Your Way’s Better” have also remained in the Top 40 on the Billboard Christian radio charts. The latter song has also sparked a viral dance that’s taken the internet by storm.
“Jesus is my Savior, and I’m alive when I worship Him,” he told The Christian Post of why he switched to Christian music. “Once I started making Christian music and worshiping Him, going back to making pop music is like air. There’s no substance in it for me personally. The fact that I get to wake up every day and worship Jesus and then just record it, and other people get to worship Jesus, too, it is so fulfilling and so life-giving, and I’m here to stay.”
