The late Rev. (Dr.) Uma Ukpai has been remembered as a committed father of the faith and a mass evangelist whose ministry left a lasting impression. Bishop Wale Oke, National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and Presiding Bishop of Christ Life Churches Worldwide, also known as Sword of the Spirit Ministries, spoke to The Guardian by telephone, noting Ukpai’s role in uniting the body of Christ.

“Our Father, God’s General, was an outstanding Father of the faith, a mass evangelist, a trailblazer. God called him home after fulfilling his ministry. We bless the name of the Lord. I have also visited the family,” Oke said.

Similarly, Rev. Dr Felix Ilaweagbon Omobude, former PFN National President and General Superintendent of Gospel Light International Ministries, described Ukpai as a friend and a man called by God whose work will endure.

“He was my Friend, it was painful, but we took it in good faith. He was called of God and has made impact on this generation. His footprint is there,” Omobude remarked.

Political figure Peter Obi also paid tribute to the cleric, recalling his commitment to evangelism and community upliftment.

“Dr. Uma Ukpai devoted his life to preaching the Gospel, healing, and uplifting souls across Nigeria and beyond. Through the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, he organised large-scale crusades, healing services, and leadership conferences that brought hope and transformation to countless lives. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” Obi said.

The reflections of church leaders and public figures highlight the influence of Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai’s ministry on religious life in Nigeria, noting both his organisational role and pastoral guidance.
