Chowdeck gets $9m funding boost for Nigeria, Ghana expansion

Chowdeck, Africa’s leading on-demand delivery platform, has secured $9 million in Series A funding to accelerate its expansion across Nigeria and Ghana and roll out a quick commerce strategy anchored on dark stores and hyperlocal logistics.

The Series A equity round was led by Novastar Ventures, with participation from Y Combinator, AAIC Investment, Rebel Fund, GFR Fund, Kaleo, HoaQ, and other global backers. The new capital injection will enable Chowdeck to deepen its coverage in existing markets, enter new cities, and speed up deliveries of food, groceries, and medicines to customers.

Founded in October 2021, Chowdeck has grown into a key technology partner for food and hospitality businesses in Africa, providing solutions that range from logistics and inventory management to payments and performance tools. With a network of more than 20,000 riders across 11 cities and over 1.5 million customers, the company currently completes most deliveries in an average of 30 minutes.

Its quick commerce strategy will leverage dark stores, small, strategically located fulfilment hubs stocked with high-demand items, to slash delivery times even further. The company said this model, combined with its hyperlocal logistics network, would improve efficiency, boost reliability, and ensure broader service reach.

Femi Aluko, CEO and co-founder of Chowdeck, described the funding as a significant milestone in the company’s mission to become Africa’s number one super app.

“We are thrilled about this round as it brings us closer to our vision of transforming how millions of Africans access food, groceries, and essentials every day. This funding will supercharge our growth plans, enabling us to expand into more cities, reduce delivery times, scale our grocery footprint, and attract the best talent to drive innovation and customer satisfaction,” Aluko stated.

Chowdeck’s growth has been fuelled by a strong vendor network, hyperlocal execution, and reliable logistics that position it as more than a delivery service, but a business growth partner. In 2024, the value of meals delivered through its platform grew more than sixfold compared to the previous year, and the company has already surpassed that record in 2025.

The recent acquisition of Mira, a point-of-sale (POS) solutions provider tailored for the food and hospitality industry, has further bolstered its technological capabilities. By integrating Mira’s product development expertise, Chowdeck aims to roll out new tools to improve vendor operations and customer experience.

Brian Waswani Odhiambo, Novastar Ventures partner, said the investment aligned with the firm’s mission to back transformative African businesses.

“Chowdeck is building the future of logistics for African cities by creating a platform that benefits consumers, vendors, and riders alike. With deep local insight, a sustainability-first approach, and impressive execution, Chowdeck is redefining last-mile delivery on the continent,” Odhiambo noted.
