The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, describing him as a towering figure in the Nigerian Church whose ministry transformed countless lives and strengthened the body of Christ across generations.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said the late cleric lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and total devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Okoh noted that Reverend Ukpai’s message of faith, healing, and hope inspired generations of believers within and beyond Nigeria, adding that his steadfast commitment to God’s work and passion for the salvation of souls left an enduring mark on the Christian community.
The CAN President stated that the revered evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
He said, “Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai was a renowned evangelist, teacher, and servant of God whose evangelistic ministry spanned more than six decades.
“Through crusades, teachings, and acts of charity, he devoted his life to preaching the gospel, nurturing faith, and advancing the cause of Christ across denominations and regions.”
Okoh commiserated with his wife, Reverend Dr. (Mrs.) Philomena Uma Ukpai, the entire Ukpai family, and the wider Christian community, praying for divine comfort and strength for all who mourn him.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of the Christian Association of Nigeria, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and ministry,” he said.
“May the Almighty God comfort them, and may the legacy of his faith and service continue to inspire the Church and the nation.”
