British Council Women in STEM scholarships 2025-2026
Brunel University London, in collaboration with the British Council, is offering five fully funded scholarships for female students from Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam as part of the British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM.
This scholarship is available only for full-time international students and will be awarded once per eligible level of study, subject to meeting academic progression requirements.

Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship is fully funded and covers:
- Full tuition fees
- Monthly stipend (up to 12 months)
- Return economy-class travel
- IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid English test)
- Visa and insurance/NHS surcharge costs
Number of Awards: 5 fully funded scholarships
Application Process
Step 1:
Applicants must first apply for their chosen MSc programme through:
- UCAS or
- Brunel Online Application Portal
Step 2:
Applicants must complete the scholarship application form and provide a compelling explanation of why they deserve the scholarship.
Deadline: Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM (UK time) on Friday, 11 April 2025.
Late applications will not be considered.
This scholarship is funded by the British Council and administered by Brunel University London. As such, information provided in the application will be shared with the British Council.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM, applicants must:
- Apply for and meet the admission criteria for one of the following one-year, full-time MSc courses at Brunel:
- MSc Flood & Coastal Engineering (with Infrastructure Design)
- MSc Water and Environmental Engineering
- MSc Sustainable Electrical Power
- MSc Public Health and Health Promotion
- MSc Mechanisms and Therapy in Cancer
- MSc Artificial Intelligence
- Receive an Unconditional Firm Offer for one of the above programmes by 30 June 2025.
- Be classified as an international student for tuition fee purposes.
- Be a national and resident of one of the eligible countries:
- Malaysia
- Myanmar
- Philippines
- Vietnam
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Hold an undergraduate degree relevant to the chosen MSc programme.
- Meet the required English language proficiency for the course.
- Show active engagement in their field (work experience or proven interest).
- Be committed to contributing to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement in their home country after graduation.
- Agree to share personal data with the British Council.
- Be willing to engage as a British Council scholarship alumna.
- Return to their home country for a minimum of two years after completing the programme.
Who is NOT Eligible?
The following applicants are NOT eligible for this scholarship:
- Those not classified as international students for fee purposes.
- Dual citizens.
- Applicants for courses other than those specified above.
- Applicants not starting in September 2025 (deferred entries are not eligible).
- Undergraduate applicants.
- Part-time, distance learning, or online students.
- Employees, former employees, or close relatives of:
- Her Majesty’s Government (British Embassies, UK Ministries, etc.)
- British Council in eligible countries
- Applicants currently receiving other financial support for studies in the UK.
- Applicants who have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or UK institutional scholarship.
Relatives include parents, step-parents, siblings, step-siblings, children, stepchildren, spouses, civil partners, or long-term unmarried partners (minimum two years).
Scholarship Outcome
Successful candidates will be notified via email by 27 June 2025.
