Bridging Divides Graduate Stipend at TMU 2025 – Up to $40K for Masters and PhD Students

This prestigious funding opportunity supports a limited number of full-time Master’s and PhD students pursuing research related to one of BD’s four key research themes.

Recipients of the BD Graduate Student Stipend will:

• Participate in BD’s research training activities and workshops.
• Join a dynamic research team comprising leading scholars and graduate students.

• Be supervised or co-supervised by TMU faculty members directly involved in the BD program.

Funding Amounts

Master’s Stipend

• Domestic students: Up to $20,000 per year
• International students: Up to $30,000 per year
• Funding is available for a maximum of two years for incoming students.
• Open to prospective first-year students and existing students entering their second year of a Master’s program at TMU in Fall 2024.
• Renewals depend on an annual progress review and fund availability.

PhD Stipend

• Domestic students: Up to $30,000 per year
• International students: Up to $40,000 per year
• Funding is available for a maximum of four years for incoming students.
• Open to prospective first-year PhD students and existing PhD students enrolled in a TMU PhD program in Fall 2025.
• Renewals depend on an annual progress review and fund availability.

Additional Funding Opportunities

• Graduate students with external grants (e.g., SSHRC, CIHR, NSERC, or similar independent scholarships) may apply for a top-up grant from BD.
• Justifications for additional funding will be evaluated case-by-case by the BD Scientific Director and Co-Director.

Entrance Master’s Student Stipends

• Application Deadline: April 1, 2025
• Eligibility: First-year incoming Master’s students

How to Apply

1. Apply to a TMU Master’s program aligned with your research interests. (Refer to the appendix for eligible affiliated programs.)
2. Submit an online application: Entrance Master’s Bridging Divides Stipend Application (2025-2026)

Application Requirements

• Indication of the TMU program(s) you applied to
• CV (Curriculum Vitae)
• Academic transcript
• Statement of Interest/Letter of Intent (from your Master’s program application)
• BD Motivation Letter (Max. 2 pages)
  • Explain your intent to apply for the BD Graduate Stipend.
  • Justify why you should receive the stipend.
  • Describe how your research aligns with at least one of the four BD research themes (see the BD website).

Additional Requirements for FEAS Applicants Only

• Proposed/expected supervisor(s): At least one supervisor must be a Bridging Divides researcher.
• FEAS Associate Dean’s Statement: A written confirmation that the applicant meets admission requirements.
