Airtel Africa Foundation has fulfilled its N1 billion commitment to Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent programme, a government-led initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with digital skills.
The donation was presented on Wednesday by the Foundation’s Chairman, Dr Segun Ogunsanya, to the Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, at a ceremony in Abuja, the telecom operator said in a statement.
“At Airtel, we believe in the power of technology and digital skills to unlock new opportunities, drive economic growth, and uplift communities.
“The 3MTT programme is a bold step towards ensuring that Nigerian youths are not just participants in the digital revolution but leaders in it. Our N1bn support is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future workforce and prosperity,” Ogunsanya said.
The 3MTT programme kicked off in 2023, championed by Tijani as part of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to develop local talent in the tech sector, seeking to bridge the digital divide and position Nigeria as a key player in the global technology landscape.
Tijani praised Airtel’s contribution, emphasising the importance of private sector collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The minister said, “The 3MTT programme is a cornerstone of our commitment to building a robust digital economy in Nigeria.
“We are grateful for Airtel Nigeria’s generous support, which will significantly expand the programme’s impact. With partnerships like this, we are not just skilling our youth; we are shaping the future of our nation.”
Airtel Africa has also reaffirmed its commitment to further collaboration with the ministry and other stakeholders, underscoring the role of public-private partnerships in driving Nigeria’s digital ambitions.
The company expressed readiness to support initiatives that enhance digital inclusion, innovation, and talent development in the country.
