A technology entrepreneur, Praise Davis, has warned that Nigeria may miss out on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence if the country continues to misuse the technology and fails to adopt a more strategic approach.
Davis, who is the founder of Bluetickgeng Development, a software development company, urged Nigerians to emulate countries that are leveraging AI to drive innovation, improve public services, and accelerate national development.
In a statement sent to PUNCH Online on Friday, Davis said AI tools should not be reduced to sources of entertainment or mischief but rather embraced as enablers of productivity, creativity, and long-term economic growth.
He expressed concern over the growing trend of Nigerians using AI applications to produce misleading or inappropriate content, including deepfake videos of public figures.
“We have seen countries using AI to improve education, healthcare, security, and business efficiency. But in Nigeria, many people are choosing to use the same tools for jokes and digital mischief that harm others.”
According to him, Nigeria has the talent and resources to harness AI for good—creating better solutions, enhancing software development, and boosting the country’s economy.
However, he added that this can only happen if Nigerians begin to take the technology seriously and stop using it to fuel gossip and scandal.
“Not everything is the government’s fault. We, the people, must also take responsibility for how we use the resources available to us,” he further said.
Concluding, he called on tech professionals, creatives, and the general public to “start using AI to build, not break—to educate, not mislead. The company believes that if properly applied, AI could be a powerful tool for national transformation.”
