The Agape Christian Assembly, under the leadership of Bishop Felix-Remi Adejumo, celebrated its 30th anniversary at its Ejigbo, Lagos branch recently.
The milestone, themed ‘Strength for more,’ served as a platform for Adejumo to deliver a message of hope and resilience to Nigerians amid the country’s economic struggles.
Addressing a congregation of thousands, including worshippers from over 35 branches worldwide, Adejumo emphasized the importance of maintaining faith in the face of adversity. He acknowledged the current hardships facing the nation, marked by rising inflation and increasing cost of living.
However, he urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, comparing the country’s situation to the biblical story of Israel’s 430 years in Egyptian captivity. “Whatever Nigeria is going through at the moment is not strange. It’s a process of growth and development. There is still light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated.
Adejumo stressed that the nation’s challenges require patience, prayers, and support for leaders. He said: “The people in authority need our prayers. Things will get better.”
Drawing from his personal journey, he reflected on the importance of waiting for divine guidance, sharing that his own ministry didn’t begin until four years after receiving his calling in 1983.
“Everything has a gestation period,” he noted. “When God speaks, He expects us to wait and seek clarity.”
The bishop highlighted the essential role of the church in nation-building, asserting that the government cannot solve all societal problems alone. He called on churches to take the lead in community service, emphasizing Agape’s commitment to impacting lives beyond spiritual guidance.
“We take care of widows, award scholarships, build houses, and support the less privileged,” Adejumo said. “The essence of living is to share and positively influence our communities.”
The church’s journey from humble beginnings to its current stature underscores this commitment. Founded in 1987 in Akure, Ondo State, Agape Christian Assembly began with just two converts. Today, it boasts over 35 branches, including locations in the United Kingdom and ten Nigerian states. “We started with my wife, her sister, and two converts. Now, we are a global family,” Adejumo recounted with gratitude.
Resident Pastor Olumuyiwa Ojo echoed the theme of growth and expansion, outlining plans to establish three more branches and increase membership. He urged members to remain steadfast and committed, highlighting that the church’s mission extends beyond spiritual teachings to practical community support. “Our influence must count in the lives of people,” Ojo emphasized. “We’re here to bless others and bring hope.”
The anniversary celebration was a vibrant affair, filled with thanksgiving, praise, and worship. The event also served as a moment of reflection on the church’s journey and God’s faithfulness over the years. Attendees expressed gratitude for the ministry’s impact, with many sharing personal testimonies of transformation and blessings received through Agape’s initiatives.
In his closing remarks, Bishop Adejumo reiterated the importance of faith and perseverance. “Don’t be in a hurry; wait on the Lord. Where God wants you to be, you will get there,” he advised. He also stressed that the church’s role is crucial in addressing societal challenges, asserting that without the church’s influence, Nigeria’s situation would be even more dire. “Despite attacks on the church, we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. Our presence makes a difference.”
As Agape Christian Assembly looks toward the future, its leaders remain committed to expanding their reach and deepening their impact. The 30th anniversary marked not just a celebration of past achievements but a renewed commitment to the mission of faith, hope, and service. “We are just beginning,” Adejumo declared. “With strength from God, we will do more, touching lives, spreading hope, and building a better tomorrow.”
