Abundant Life with Pastor John Hagee – “From Little Faith to Great Faith”

The Gospel of Matthew records several instances where Jesus speaks of the ‘little faith’ and ‘great faith’ of the people. The disciples had little faith when the storm hit in Matthew 8 and Jesus was asleep in the boat. They thought Jesus was going to let them drown, not caring enough to get up from His nap. Fast forward to another storm in Matthew 14, as Jesus walked on water toward the disciples. Peter stepped out of the boat, seemingly buoyed by faith, only to begin to sink the moment he took his eyes off Jesus. Jesus reached out to save him, saying, “Oh ye of little faith, why did you doubt?”

However, Jesus also celebrated great faith. When a centurion sought healing for his servant in Matthew 8, he expressed profound faith in Jesus’ authority, saying, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.” Jesus marveled at this, declaring, “I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel.” Similarly, in Matthew 15, a Gentile woman, undeterred by obstacles, pleaded for her daughter’s healing. Her unwavering faith prompted Jesus to respond, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” How do you get from little faith to great faith? By fighting the good fight. Each battle you face in life increases your faith, preparing you for greater challenges. That’s what great faith is; giant-killing faith.”
