In response to a troubling increase in health-related deaths among Nollywood actors, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has launched the “Nollywood Health Campaign and Walk for Life.”

Emeka Rollas Ejezie, AGN President highlighted that the initiative aims to promote health awareness and provide medical support for guild members.

“We have lost a lot of our members due to carelessness regarding their health issues. So, we set up this scheme to address these concerns,” he told Saturday Sun.

The campaign, which began in 2023 designates a day for actors to participate in Health Management Organization (HMO) signups, insurance registrations, and fitness activities.

In line with 2024 being declared “Operation Take Care of Your Health,” the campaign was launched in Asaba, Delta State, while the Lagos edition held on May 25.

Ejezie also disclosed plans to expand the campaign to other states, starting with cities where the movie industry is thriving.

The registration process for the health plan is designed to be accessible, with membership fees as low as N1,850 per month. This comprehensive plan covers hospitalization, lab tests, and more.

Additionally, the AGN partnered with Ruzu Herbal to offer alternative medical treatments free of charge. “They have treated over 35 members of our guild free of charge. The company’s new network marketing platform, ‘Go Wellness’, also provides members with opportunities to earn extra income,” Ejezie said.

The Lagos event saw notable figures in attendance, including Desmond Eliot, Segun Arinze, Ali Baba, and Nigeria’s historical gold medalist, retired DCP Chioma Ajunwa. The walk, which started at Onikan Stadium and proceeded to Falomo Ikoyi and back, drew a significant turnout of Nollywood actors.
