Each communion and multilateral organization has circulated its report ahead of the meeting, then will have 30 minutes during which to highlight the content of the report and give time for discussion.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) will share how it has continued walk, work, and pray on its Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity. “Global challenges remained with us and, this year, we see added challenges,” reads the WCC report. “We are notably living in difficult times dominated by wars, factions, climate emergencies, hunger, poverty, and injustices.”

The report notes that, in such a context, the work of the WCC becomes much more needed and relevant. “Amidst these challenges, the WCC remains committed and faithful in proclaiming justice, peace, reconciliation, and unity to the world,” reads the text.

The Conference of Secretaries of Christian World Communions has met annually since 1957, fostering engagement and cooperation among Christian world communions within the evolving ecumenical movement.

Originally established to enhance mutual understanding and foster unity, these meetings have broadened to encompass a wider ecumenical mission.

Each year, secretaries gather to share updates, discuss outcomes from bilateral dialogues, and identify common challenges, strengthening a network of ecumenical leadership.

“As trust and mutual support have grown, the Conference of Secretaries of Christian World Communions has become a vital part of the ecumenical calendar, where leaders find both personal growth and a shared vision for addressing new initiatives and common concerns,” said Prof. Dr Vasile-Octavian Mihoc, WCC programme executive for Ecumenical Relations and Faith and Order. “Respect, attentiveness, and thoughtful listening are essential here, enabling Christian leaders to engage deeply and hear about each church’s journey of faith, including its respective challenges. This space allows them to learn from one another’s experiences and insights, strengthening their collective ability to overcome challenges and fulfill God’s purposes together.”
