A Chinese technology firm, realme, has announced its presence in Nigeria with the unveiling of its Note 50. With a focus on deepening the country’s device market and competing for a share of Nigeria’s burgeoning smartphone sub-sector, realme said it would not only make its devices accessible to Nigerians but also affordable, especially considering the current economic lull in the country.
Launched in China in 2018 and three per cent market share from the country of origin, data showed that realme emerged in 2020 as the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand, with a yearly growth rate of 157 per cent. As of November 2023, it surpassed 200 million smartphone shipments globally.
realme Nigerian representative, Antonio Ran, said within three years, realme became one of the top 5 smartphone players in 30 markets globally.
Ran informed that realme was established by Sky Li in 2018 and its philosophy appeals to young consumers in the world’s rapidly developing economies.
Head of Marketing, Nigeria, Yusuf Adebari, said that realme Note 50 is officially in Nigeria. Adebari explained that the realme Note 50 runs on Android 14-based realme UI T Edition. The display of the handset has a 180Hz touch sampling rate and 560 nits of peak brightness.
According to him, it is powered by a Unisoc T612 chip onboard paired with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage (expandable to 128GB). He said for optics, the device boasts a dual rear camera setup comprising a 13-megapixel primary shooter and a secondary sensor.
