The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced applications for the 2024 Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge.
ConsumerConnect reports NITDA disclosed the programme aims to harness the power of technology and innovation to address critical infrastructure challenges in the country.
The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency, in a public notice Thursday, September 12, 2024, also stated this year’s Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge is designed to generate comprehensive, data-driven digital maps for Nigeria’s 36 states including the FCT.
NITDA also noted these data-driven digital maps are focused on critical infrastructure to enhance decision-making and development planning purposes in the Nigerian economy.
The agency said the programme participants would collaborate in teams to create innovative digital maps of a Nigerian state, highlighting critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, roads, and utilities.
These maps will provide insights that can drive sustainable development across Nigeria, it stated.
In regard to the modus operandi of the 2024 Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge, the IT industry regulatory agency further explained that the prospective participants would work in teams to, among others, identify critical infrastructure (from selected innovation challenge focus areas) in their respective states.
Use mapping and visualisation tools to create detailed, interactive digital maps.
Present the findings in a way that tells a compelling story about the infrastructure needs and opportunities in their state.
It noted they would be required to submit their final project as a URL to a digital map that showcases the identified infrastructure and insights.
For eligibility to participate in the Challenge, NITDA emphasised that “all participants” must be Nigerian citizens with a valid means of identification (National ID, voter’s card, international passport, or driver’s licence).
Besides, participants must be 18 years and above at the time of registration to ensure legal participation and commitment.
